Management Team
The founders of The Meridian Group, David Cheek and Bruce Lane, have been responsible for commercial real estate transactions totaling more than $2.8 billion in their careers. Prior to the formation of Meridian in 1993, Mr. Cheek and Mr. Lane were Managing Director and Vice President, respectively, of the Other Real Estate Owned (OREO) Division at Riggs National Bank in Washington, D.C. where they managed, leased and sold a $250 million real estate portfolio during 1991 and 1992.   Meridian has built a tremendous team from its key business relationships with partners, brokers and attorneys.
 

 

G. David Cheek, President and Co-Founder.  Mr. Cheek has 31 years of industry experience including the development of three million square feet of office buildings. From 1983 through 1990, Mr. Cheek was Senior Vice President for office development at Hazel/Peterson Companies, one of the largest developers in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. In this capacity, he managed the development of two million square feet of first class office buildings in Northern Virginia.  Mr. Cheek began his career in 1979 in the real estate investment department of Prudential Insurance Company where he worked for four years, primarily managing spec office development projects totaling 500,000 square feet for its Washington, D.C. office. Mr. Cheek received his B.A. from Centre College and his M.B.A. from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia.  

Bruce S. Lane, Executive Vice President and Co-Founder.  Mr. Lane has 25 years of commercial real estate experience and four years of investment banking experience, where he specialized in corporate finance and mortgage finance transactions involving transactions totaling several billion dollars. Before joining Riggs, Mr. Lane was an Associate at Morgan Stanley Realty in Washington, D.C. for two years. Mr. Lane received his B.S. cum laude from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and his M.B.A. with honors from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Mr. Lane is also a C.P.A. and previously worked in the tax department at Arthur Andersen in Washington, D.C.

Gary E. Block, Partner and Managing Director. Mr. Block has over 24 years of industry experience.  Prior to joining Meridian, Mr. Block was with The Carlyle Group, where he was head of the Real Estate Fund’s Acquisitions Group.  At Carlyle, Mr. Block led and completed over $12 billion of investments ($3.4 billion of equity) in nearly 200 transactions.  Investments included the acquisition, development, structured financing and recapitalization of office, hotel, retail, residential, industrial, land, senior living and mixed-use properties.  At Carlyle, Mr. Block also led the firm’s efforts in the formation of Carlyle Realty Partners I, II, III, IV and V (over $5 billion in investor commitments).  Before joining Carlyle, Mr. Block was a partner  at Vinson and Elkins LLP in Washington, D.C., where he represented The Meridian Group in its first three years of investments.  Mr. Block received his B.A. from Vanderbilt University and his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law.

Gary C. Dick, Senior Vice President, Asset Management, and Development.  Over 24 years of industry experience in asset management, property management, construction and development.  Prior to joining Meridian in 1996, he was the regional asset manager for a one million square foot office portfolio in metropolitan Washington, D.C. owned by Beacon Properties, a Boston-based REIT before its merger with the Equity Office Properties Trust.  His responsibilities at Meridian include oversight of asset management, property management and development.

Troy H. George III,CPA, Senior Vice President and Controller, Financial Reporting, and Accounting.  Mr. George has over 24 years experience in asset management, property management and accounting.  Prior to joining Meridian in 1996, he was co-director of property management accounting at the Carey Winston Company, the largest regional property management firm in metropolitan Washington, D.C. prior to its merger with Transwestern. His responsibilities at Meridian include acquisitions and finance analysis, financial reporting, operating budgets, asset management, property management oversight, annual audit engagements, tax matters, loan administration and cash management.  Mr. George holds a B.S. in Accounting from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

John D. Wilkinson, Vice President, Development, Aquisitions, and Asset Management.  Mr. Wilkinson has 11 years of professional experience including acquisitions, development, leasing and investment sales.  Formerly, with the JBG Companies, Mr. Wilkinson was a development associate where his team developed over 500 units of residential, over 200,000 square feet of office, and hotel product. Prior to the JBG Companies, Mr. Wilkinson was a partner with CB Richard Ellis’ real estate solutions team in Delaware/Pennsylvania.  Mr. Wilkinson’s team managed the DuPont, Discover Financial, Chase Manhattan Bank, Citigroup, Christiana Health Services, Household International and Bank One accounts.  Mr. Wilkinson and his team leased and sold over 6,000,000 square feet of space and over 1,000 acres of land exceeding one billion dollars in total consideration in over 50 different markets throughout the country.  Mr. Wilkinson received his B.A. from The Cornell University School of Hotel Administration.

Kevin M. Hill, Vice President, Acquisitions, Capital, and Finance.  Mr. Hill has 14 years of professional experience.  Previously a Second Vice President with the Real Estate Group of New York Life Investment Management (NYLIM), Mr. Hill was a member of the Real Estate Mezzanine and Preferred Equity Fund where his responsibilities included originating, underwriting and structuring Fund investments across all property types, with a focus on office and multifamily properties.  While at NYLIM, Mr. Hill’s team invested over $100 million of institutional equity in transactions of more than $900 million in total capitalization.  Prior to joining NYLIM, Mr. Hill was a Senior Analyst at ARK Realty Capital in Bethesda, MD.  Mr. Hill received his M.S. from Johns Hopkins University and his B.B.A. from James Madison University.  Mr. Hill is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Amie Merritt Cofini, Associate, Asset Management, and Marketing. Mrs. Cofini has 7 years of professional experience, including 4 years of mortgage banking with Bank of America.  At Meridian, Mrs. Cofini is responsible for company-wide activities including: asset management, development, marketing, corporate communications, finance and market research.  Mrs. Cofini received her B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
